What Are Local Groups?

Local groups are there to help teachers share resources and ideas. The following groups are established and hold meetings each year. They try to meet at least once a term to discuss current issues in the various syllabi and to provide support and help to one another. The groups usually have links to a local university and this can provide an access point to up-to-date research and visits to see equipment that it would not be possible to access within your school or college.

Each group has a contact person who can tell you when and where the meetings are.

Want to form a group?

If there is not currently a local group that is close to you, why not start one yourself? It is relatively easy to do. Just get in touch with some teachers you know from local schools and colleges and arrange for you all to meet for a couple of hours. It can be during school time or in the early evening, whichever suits your situations. Provide some tea and coffee and a few biscuits and you are away. Below is a suggestion of a good agenda to start with and some ideas for how the meetings might change across the year. You might like to get in touch with a local university's psychology department to see if they are willing to join the group and to help make links.
